日本では戦前の頃から、南アフリカ原産の多肉植物であるガステリアの栽培と交配が行われてきました。長い年月を経て、日本独自の美意識と栽培技術が加わり、世界に類を見ない多くの品種が生み出されています。”軍配”や”達磨”といった葉姿の変化や斑入りの表現など、日本ならではの工夫と選抜は、日本におけるガステリア文化の一つの大きな特徴となっています。
私たち日本ガステリア愛好会は、こうした貴重な日本のガステリアに関する情報を可能な限り記録し、次世代へと受け継いでいくことを目指しています。また、愛好家同士の交流を促進し、知識や経験を共有したいと考えています。 ガステリアを愛するすべての人々に向けて、この小さな多肉植物が持つ魅力を発信し、未来に残していくこと。それが私たち日本ガステリア愛好会の活動の原点です。
About the Japanese Gasteria Society
Since before World War II, Gasteria—a succulent native to South Africa—has been cultivated and hybridized in Japan. Over the decades, Japanese aesthetics and horticultural techniques have been incorporated, giving rise to a wide range of cultivars unique to Japan and unparalleled elsewhere in the world. Variations in leaf form such as Gunbai (“war fan”) and Daruma, as well as distinctive variegation patterns, exemplify the creativity and selective breeding that have become defining features of Japan’s Gasteria culture.
The Japanese Gasteria Society seeks to preserve as much information as possible about these valuable Japanese cultivars and to pass this knowledge on to future generations. We also aim to foster connections among enthusiasts, encouraging the exchange of experience and expertise.
Sharing the charm of this modest yet captivating succulent with all who love it, and ensuring its legacy for the future—this is the founding principle of the Japanese Gasteria Society.
